Software, Science & Technical Vision
"Even as a child, I wanted to teach computers what only humans can do. Today I do exactly that and live my dream."
Lars embodies the scientific core of Dornheim. He sees himself in the tradition of his ancestors, who have been entrepreneurs since 1838. With Dornheim Medical Images he carries on this spirit, yet started from scratch in a modern field of technology.
His path is marked by technical excellence: as a child he learned to program within a matter of days. After winning the 1995 state title at "Jugend forscht" with an AI project, followed by a computer science degree with top marks and admission to the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, he spent several years conducting research at the university in the field of medical image analysis. In parallel, he contributed to early AI systems at corporations such as Siemens and British Telecom.
Strategy, Design & Usability
"My heart beats for bringing together complex technology with beautiful design and perfect usability."
Jana ensures that complex algorithms become usable. As the daughter of mathematicians, she became familiar with technology at an early age. After earning top marks in her Abitur and completing her studies in Computational Visualistics, she spent years conducting research at the university on medical visualization in direct collaboration with physicians.
A highlight of her time in the USA: working on a team with Turing Award laureate Alan C. Kay, she helped develop a 3D learning environment that became one of the direct precursors to the now world-renowned programming software "Scratch". Today she brings her experience in usability and design to our projects.
Our story began in the research laboratories of the University of Magdeburg. As academic scholarship holders and staff, we devoted ourselves there to the automatic understanding and visualization of medical 3D image data. The challenge: while industrial image processing is designed for standardized parts, the human body is organic and individual. Where standard algorithms fail, we became specialists for precisely this non-technical and "difficult" data.
To bring our findings into practice, in 2009 we founded Dornheim Medical Images GmbH. The result is a portfolio of globally established products such as the complex image analysis software Dornheim Segmenter and the Dornheim DICOM Viewer, used in 193 countries. Later came the world's first interactive anatomical 3D case collection Dornheim Real Anatomy and our medical Dornheim.Cloud. Most recently came the Dornheim AI Platform. The technological depth of these products forms the foundation of our work.
By the way: Our ability to analyze "difficult" data where standard methods fail is also in demand beyond medicine. In industry, security, and public administration, our Dornheim Consulting division handles this for you – you will find everything about it at https://dornheim.consulting.
Why exceptional minds stand behind our medical products.
Medical image data is organic, individual, and rarely unambiguous – standard software development is not enough here. That is why we rely on team members who do not merely tackle problems but grasp them mathematically. Many of our developers have their roots in research competitions or in mathematics – these analytical skills are embedded in every one of our products, exactly where pure programming reaches its limits.
Whether medical research and studies, medical technology development, data preparation and AI training, or education and patient information – or something tailored specifically to your own data – we would be glad to show you in a personal conversation or a demo how our software can support you. We look forward to connecting with you.
